Eusko Ikaskuntza's EuskoSare is presenting the third edition of "International Short Story Contest EuskoSare 2007". This is geared to writers from all over the world who wish to write on a Basque theme in Euskara, Spanish, French, or English. 300 words. The best work will win €500.

The short film, “Beghiri”, by the Gipuzkoan, Oier Fuentes wins the first edition of EuskoMovie. The Best Original Idea went to Xabier Hernandez and Mikel Gorrotxategi for “Consejos”. “Kakarril” also by Oier Fuentes, received a special mention by the judges. The users have decided that the Spectators’ Prize will go to "Memorias de una alboka".

The following are the contest prizes:

* Best Short Film: 600 euros

* Best Original Idea: 400 euros

* Spectators’ Prize: 200 euros

The entry submission period the first on-line Short Film contest has ended. Now it’s time for the users to pick the winning video for the third category: Spectator Award. Pick your favorite film, 200 euros are at stake.

From today until the 28th of September at 12:00 midnight, Basque Country time, EuskoSare users will be able to choose the video winner of the third category; “Spectator Award” endowed with 200 euros. Participation in the contest has been very good and we received videos from various corners of the world such as the United States, England, Mexico, Argentina and the Basque Country. The bar has been set high by the participants and it won’t be easy to choose the winning videos.

The NABO (North American Basque Organization) Convention was held this last Labor Day weekend. It was a very successful meeting and was in conjunction with the Chino Basque festival weekend. You have 14 days to take part in EuskoMovie, the first online short film contest organised by EuskoSare. Only projects filmed on your telephone, photo camera or camcorder will be accepted. You could win 600, 400 or 200 euros for a two-minute piece.
EuskoMovie 200, the first online short film contest organised by EuskoSare is coming to an end. The deadline to take part in the contest organised in collaboration with the Cinematography Section at Eusko Ikaskuntza and the Basque Filmoteque finishes in just two week´s time.

Zazpiak Bat Basque Club from Reno celebrated its annual Basque festival with several hundred people attending. Organizers say they want to share their Basque festivities with others so that other people can learn about different aspects of their culture and who the Basques are. Festival activities included traditional Basque song and dance, gastronomy and rural sports exhibitions.

Several hundred festival goers braved the 90 degree heat to enjoy the festivities on Saturday in Reno’s Wingfield Park. There was a variety of Basque rural sport and dance exhibitions, gastronomy, and music for everyone’s enjoyment. This is the 41st annual festival and the organizers, Zazpiak Bat (the seven provinces are one), are very keen at understanding the local crowds desire to learn more about Basque cultural and the club’s ability to showcase it in a weekend.

The global Basque community would like to extend our condolences to Igor Aristegi's family and friends.

The young Basque man from Beasain, who had a bright and promising future in the field of scientific studies of philosophy, died while on vacation in North America in July. Cause of death has not been confirmed.

There is a new Basque band in the western US, it is called Amuma Says No. Each one of its members brings their strengths and complimentary value to ensemble a new type of Basque music in the North American scene. EuskoSare interviews one of the founding members, Dan Ansotegui, to help us get acquainted with the group and with ideas of how cultures survive with change.
